Regularly referred to as a “Gem of a Stove” by its following because of its high functioning simplicity. It’s small but fierce! To get a high BTU from such a small structure I knew it needed to breathe freely which lent itself very well to its minimalistic design. The small diameter arms and legs are spring tempered for strength. With the Nano, less is more. Less bulk, weight and complication with plenty of function. I use the Nano primarily with the Trangia Alcohol Burner. Secondarily (as backup) with wood (twigs and sticks) which works very well but does require a bit more of your attention. The Nano works perfectly with the Trangia alcohol burner both for heat sensitive cooking and fast boiling with a wide variety of cookware. If you prefer the clean and convenient experience of cooking over alcohol, the Nano-Trangia combination provides an excellent experience for all types of camping. -Steve
3″ G2 Firebox Nano Stove: Owners often refer to it as a “Gem of a stove” It’s an expression of genuine admiration for a product with simple sophistication. It’s surprisingly able to do so much with so little, earning its place in backpacks around the world.
X-Case: Besides being an awesome case to protect your Nano, the X-Case also performs as a stabilizer and an ash pan for your Nano using the X grooves which are built in. It also has room for storing a Carbon Felt pad which is useful for a variety of purposes including as a wind guard (using the L-Pins and Carbon Felt). Simply clear the area of combustibles, open up the X-Case & Nano, break up a few sticks and you’re ready to boil water for coffee or cook up a freshly caught trout dinner!
Carbon Felt: We weren’t out to make something to withstand high winds since a wood fire in high winds is a bad idea regardless of your windscreen. For the amount of wind, which I feel is still safe (to have a wood fire) the Carbon Felt as a wind block works great. If you add the flame guard (sold separately) on the other side it works even better.
L-Pins: These pins are used to create a windscreen using the Carbon Felt and X-Case.
Nano Sticks: These are special position pins for the Firebox Wood Flame Gas Burner
Trangia Alcohol, Trangia Gas Burner which fit the Firebox Nano. They have a unique shape which locks into the folded closed Nano Stove to prevent loss, and the shaped ends along with their diagonal direction also prevent the sticks from accidentally slipping out of the position holes.
Note: Fire safety is the responsibility of the person lighting the fire.
Titanium VS Stainless Steel: Stainless Steel (SS) is the heavy duty option, basically bomb proof. If you like big over the top fires, long into the night, we would recommend the SS 5” G2 Firebox Stove. Titanium (Ti) is 40% lighter, corrosion proof and cools down fast. The 3” G2 Firebox Nano’s less overall heat potential means it doesn’t need much if any maintenance (applies to both Ti & SS). The Nano is a “gem of a stove” for those keeping things simple.
In the end, you can’t go wrong, most people want more than one stove because needs change depending on the trip. We’ve learned that a trip’s success greatly depends on having the right gear (right up there with the weather).
