Great saw!

I bought this saw here four years ago. Still works great, and haven't sharpened it yet, even though I bought the file to sharpen it. I felled a 50+ foot spruce tree, 15 inches in diameter just to see if I could do it with this saw, and many trees smaller than this. Only maintenance so far is cleaning, spraying with light oil, and tightening the hinge screw.

Able to handle anything you can.

An excellent saw for cutting large trees with ease and in relative silence. While it can handle trees well over 12" in diameter, I rarely find I am cutting much more than 8". Yes, it's length means you will have plenty of draw to work with. However, there are some things a first time owner of such a saw should be aware of.
1. The Silky Katanaboy 650mm has gone up in price recently, as have many things. As such, you are buying a lot of saw, but at a premium. I would advise against buying a saw of such size unless you are considering doing some pretty hefty work.
2. A large saw means getting an undercut on many fallen logs means you need about 6" of space between the tree and the ground. You want an undercut or some block so that larger logs don't pinch the saw and you find yourself trying to find a way to release the saw. Think about this before you start cutting.
3. That size also means that this saw is not going to fit easily into a lot of packs. This saw's size is going to attract some attention. If you are trying to keep it on the down low, you might want to go a bit smaller.
All in all, it's a great saw, but you might want to go a size or two smaller, think about your needs.

Fantastic investment and value

I've had the 650 for well over a year and put it to some test. It's insanity how fast you can go through trees with this thing. Probably the greatest tool I own. You can harvest days worth of firewood in 5-10 minutes.

Warning, it's so sharp there's no room for mistakes. Wear protective gloves when using. Seriously. I've had to put my medkit to use when making the slightest wrong move. Also seen other user errors on YouTube.

Large, but excellent.

I have owned a Silky F-180 and would still recommend it as the first saw in anyone's bag based on it's portability (you can carry one in your pocket and not even remember that it's there). That said, the Silky Katanaboy 650mm will allow one to cut large logs with much greater ease than a bowsaw and is only marginally slower than a chainsaw. I use the Katanaboy for cutting up downed trees by the roadside. A chainsaw would only irritate whoever lived nearby and cause headaches for me in the process (PS, I'm only taking trees downed by storms and not on private property). I plan to take in at least a cord this year, which would more than cover the cost of the saw compared to firewood delivered. It's a great saw to keep in the car and useful in a variety of scenarios.

AMAZING

I bought this saw before a hunting trip. Typically , I would use my crosscut, which I have for year (approx 30/35 ). I'm 62 years young. Colorado allows no motorized equipment in there wilderness's. I looked at the reviews, watched you tub videos, and took the plunge. I will NEVER look back. Amazing,,If rating went to 11,,I would give it a 12..Many falling trees on the trail and some in the 20 inch range were no problem for this saw. I love my saw..
